I created the cover illustration for the UK edition of The Key by Junichiro Tanizaki.
In this artwork, I focused on expressing the themes that run through Tanizaki’s literature: restraint and release, concealed desire, and the pursuit of beauty within a confined visual space.To portray Ikuko’s blend of delicacy and boldness with simplicity and elegance, I eliminated decorative elements and concentrated on line and form. I emphasized the natural curves and softness of the nude figure and paid close attention to the subtle wavering of the lines and the use of negative space so as not to disturb the erotic tension inherent in The Key.
