Starbucks Coffee Japan
Store artworks
Artwork
For the Starbucks Ginza EXITMELSA store, the commissioned artwork consists of two main components: the large wall mural wonder farm that spans an expansive interior wall, and a series of six canvas works. The mural wonder farm depicts an imagined coffee farm constructed by combining scenes and people from three coffee-growing regions around the world. Figures working on the farms are interwoven with elements of abundant nature and touches of fantasy, unfolding across more than ten meters of wall space. This fictional landscape is designed to remind visitors of the origins of coffee and evoke a sense of the lives, labor, and coexistence with nature that support its production.
Alongside the mural, the six canvas pieces focus on the people who contribute to Starbucks. They portray individuals who sustain the stores and the broader organization, capturing the sincerity and energy of baristas and farm workers who bring coffee to customers each day. By visualizing the continuity from the farm to the store, the works condense the story of how coffee arrives at one’s hands into a single shared space.Rather than serving merely as decoration, the artwork highlights nature, human activity, and the presence of the staff who support daily life. It aims to convey the depth behind every cup of coffee and foster a sense of empathy for the people involved in its journey.
